Welcome to the 33rd annual Virginian Soccer Tournament!

During each of the past four years of tournament play, we had about 650 boys and girls teams from 9 to 19 years in age compete at the Virginian. These teams came from Germany, Canada, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.

Your club, league, or association is invited to apply to compete in the 33rd annual Virginian to be played May 24-26, 2008. The Virginian is a Class I tournament open to USYSA FIFA affiliated club/league teams as well as US Club Soccer Teams and is an approved tournament of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association affiliated with USYSC, USSF, and FIFA. It is not a select, all-star, recreational, or ODP team tournament.

Tournament Information 

     VIRGINIA CUP State Cup Champions or Finalists and Top Teams from each State for U12-U19.
     PREMIER GOLD The premier teams in each age group, typically Division I Teams
     PREMIER SILVER Teams that compete in Division II and III.
     PREMIER BRONZE Teams that compete in Division IV or lower league play or are considered to be developing teams.

NUMBER OF GAMES:
Each team will be scheduled to play a minimum of four (4) games for play on Saturday and Sunday. If unforeseen circumstances, such as weather or late withdrawals, force games to be cancelled, the Virginian is not liable and there will be no refunds for unplayed games. Each age group in each level of competition will have a separate semi-final and championship game. Semi-final games are scheduled for Sunday and Championship games are scheduled for Monday. The VIRGINIAN Tournament will ATTEMPT to grant scheduling requests for the weekend. However, due to the size and scope of the competition, this may not always be possible. Depending on the applications received, each age group could not be represented in each competition level. Age groups are based on the date of birth of the oldest player as follows:

    U-19 - August 1, 1988 and younger
    U-18 - August 1, 1989 and younger
    U-17 - August 1, 1990 and younger
    U-16 - August 1, 1991 and younger
    U-15 - August 1, 1992 and younger
    U-14 - August 1, 1993 and younger
    U-13 - August 1, 1994 and younger
    U-12 - August 1, 1995 and younger
    U-11 - August 1, 1996 and younger**
    U-10 - August 1, 1997 and younger*
    U-09 - August 1, 1998 and younger*
GAME FORMATS/ROSTER SIZE:
*The U-9 and U-10 age groups will play 7 v 7 on smaller fields. 
 
**The Virginian offers both 11 v 11 and 8 v 8 for the U-11 and U-12 age group. Teams can designate which format they prefer when they apply. The Virginian reserves the right to switch formats if there are not enough teams to form a flight for a particular format.

Teams playing 11 v 11 may have up to 18 players of which a maximum of three (3) may be guest players. Teams playing 7 v 7 or 8 v 8 may have up to 14 players of which a maximum of three (3) may be guest players. Guest players must be current USYS/USSF or national equivalent players whose team is not participating in the Virginian. Teams entered for competition must be (1) in a league affiliated with the USSF or national equivalent and (2) sanctioned by the appropriate State or National Association.

AWARDS:
The winning team in each Championship game will receive a Virginian Cup. In addition each player on the roster of the winning team will receive a unique Virginian Champions T-Shirt and a Champions Trophy. Each player on the runner-up team will receive a Finalist Trophy. 

PLAYER PROFILE BOOK/SEMINAR FOR COLLEGE BOUND ATHLETES:
All U-15 through U-19 teams accepted to the Virginian have the opportunity to submit summary information on their players and have this information included in the "College Player Profile Book" which the Virginian provides to the college coaches or their representatives at the Virginian.

As an additional benefit, the Virginian will host a seminar for college-bound players and their parents and coaches. The seminar will feature a panel of NCAA coaches and players who will provide information and insights on playing in college. A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion. The seminar will be held on Saturday, May 24th at the HYATT Fair Lakes in Fairfax, Virginia.

FORMS FOR THE VIRGINIAN:
Prior to the start of competition, teams must present proof of affiliation and permission to travel, validated State, US Club Soccer, or Provincial player passes, as well as parental medical release forms which are required for all players.

As a convenience to teams, the Virginian will have copies of all forms available for downloading from our web site.
