Day 1 of the 2015 Virginian Elite Showcase kicks off with great weather and high quality soccer

The 40th Virginian Elite Showcase started early Saturday morning with perfect weather conditions and a renewed excitement for another great holiday weekend of soccer.

Returning for the second year in a row, and planning to host many more Virginian tournaments in the future, Evergreen SportsPlex provided a energetic atmosphere on and off the pitch for the Girls Showcase age groups. There was much talk on the sidelines about the newly-opened stadium, snack bar, parking, as well as the newly opened Adventure Course in the background.

A large group of college coaches were filled the sidelines, many still looking for seniors to add to their squads.

Meanwhile on the pitch, Southwestern Youth Association Cardinals 96 defeated Fauquier County Fever 2-0, Panthers United X-Treme beat Culpeper Comets 2-1, SYC Pride Fire beat Loudoun 97 Black 2-1 and Lee Mount Vernon SC edged out Vienna Youth Soccer Falcons 1-0.

Evergreen’s newly opened Adventure Park was also busy with long lines of people waiting to try test their skills on the rope courses and zip lines running through the forest providing a backdrop unlike any major soccer venue in the country.

Over in the Men’s Showcase Division Saturday kicked off at Long Bridge Park in Crystal City, VA. Teams and supporters enjoyed the state-of-the-art facility which features three turf fields overlooking the Pentagon and in sight of the Washington Monument.

In one of the more thrilling matches of the day, SYC United and Northern Virginia SC Arsenal White played to a 3-3 draw in which four the goals were scored in the final 15 minutes.

A new venue at the Virginian Elite Showcase was Morven Park which hosted all U-9 to U-11 boys teams. Lots of great soccer on the 14 fields all weekend long. Loudoun Soccer Park played host to all U-12 (8v8) boys teams, and also hosted championship games on Memorial Day Monday. The U-9 and U-10 girls teams were at various locations in Fairfax County. Hellwig Park and Howison Park played host to all U-11 and U-12 girls teams.
