2008 Virginian Soccer Tournament Application

The Virginian Soccer Tournament is now accepting applications for the 2008 Virginian Soccer Tournament. All applications must be submitted via the on-line application form. Please read the information below and then click 2008 APPLICATION at the bottom of the page to begin applying.

NOTE: To successfully submit an application and receive a confirmation email, you MUST (1) complete the online application form in its entirety, and (2) pay the appropriate entry fee. Failure to complete either step results in the application being voided. If you wish to reapply, you will need to start the application process over. To avoid problems and ensure a speedy and pleasant online experience, please read all the information preceeding the application first.

We ask that BEFORE you begin to fill out your team’s application you read the following two important pieces of information.

SECTION A

Application & Selection Procedures, Requirements and General Information

APPLICATION - PROCEDURES, REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL INFORMATION:

  1. The VIRGINIAN is a Class 1 tournament open to USYSA FIFA affiliated club/ league teams as well as US Club Soccer teams and is approved by the Virginia Youth Soccer Association affiliated with USYSC, USSF, and FIFA. See the approved "Application to Host a Tournament or Games" on the VIRGINIAN web site for details of the sanction. The Rules of Competition are also available on the web site. This tournament is not a select, all-star, recreational, or ODP team tournament. The VIRGINIAN reserves the right to not select any team whose actions or behavior is deemed not to be in the best interest of youth soccer.

  2. The VIRGINIAN will only accept applications that are submitted online through our website. All sections of the application must be completed. The information provided in the application is the major basis for invitation decisions by the selection committee.

  3. The entry fee* is $630 [USD] per team for U-9 and 10’s and $685 [USD] for U-11’s thru U-16’s and $735 [USD] for U-17’s thru U-19s. Beginning in 2008, the Virginian is instituting a credit card only policy for the payment of registration fees (VISA & MasterCard). The application deadline, and last day to submit your application, is April 22, 2008. >

    • Payment is due upon application submittal online.

  4. Teams who withdraw prior to March 1, 2008 will have their entrance fee refunded. Teams who withdraw between March 1, 2008 and March 31, 2008 will be charged a $200 administrative fee. Teams who withdraw between April 1, 2008 and April 22, 2008 will be charged a $400 administrative fee. Any team that withdraws after the tournament deadline will forfeit its entrance fee.

  5. The application deadline for the VIRGINIAN is April 22, 2008.

  6. The information provided in this application may be provided to SYC’s sponsors and affiliates.

SELECTION - PROCEDURES, REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL INFORMATION:

  1. Because the VIRGINIAN is a highly selective and competitive tournament, fulfillment of the application procedures does not guarantee invitation. The selection committee expends considerable effort to verify all application information and select the most competitive teams possible and determines the Division placement. Competitors will be placed in divisions at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

  2. The selection of teams and "Official Invitation" notification via e-mail will begin the week of April 14, 2008. All teams will be notified of selection or rejection by no later than thirty (30) days prior to the start of the tournament.

  3. The VIRGINIAN Tournament has reserved rooms for Memorial Day Weekend through Certified Travel Associates. ALL teams needing housing for the Virginian Soccer Tournament MUST make their housing reservations through Certified Travel in order to be considered for acceptance into the tournament. Memorial Day Weekend is an extremely busy time in the D.C. area, therefore we suggest you register with Certified Travel at the same time you submit your application for the tournament. Once your team is accepted you will have an opportunity to update your housing request based on field location prior to hotel assignment.  Hotel assignments for accepted teams are based on the order teams registered with Certified Travel.  Please get on the housing list right away to ensure your team’s top choices for housing. 

  4. Official Invitation information will be available on line through the VIRGINIAN web site at www.soccertournament.com. This information will contain all pertinent forms, documents, rules, procedures and deadlines related to participation in the tournament.

  5. All players must be registered to the team applying for participation.

  6. A player must be registered to only one team applying for participation.

  7. All participating players will be required to have signed Medical Release Form.

  8. Transportation to and from the tournament shall be at the expense of the participating teams.

  9. Participating teams are responsible for all expenses. Expenses include, but are not limited to, local accommodations, food, local ground transportation for the entire delegation, entertainment costs and any medical treatment required.

  10. Each team will be scheduled to play a minimum of four (4) games for play on Saturday and Sunday, with additional semi-final or final games as necessary. If unforeseen circumstances, such as weather or late withdrawals, force games to be cancelled, the VIRGINIAN is not liable and there will be no refunds for unplayed games.

GUEST PLAYERS INFORMATION:

  1. U-11’s thru U-16’s teams may have up to 18 players of which a maximum of three (3) may be guest players. U17’s thru U19’s may have a maximum of 22 players of which maximum of three (3) may be guest players. For U-9’s and U-10’s and U11’s and U-12’s (playing 8 v 8), teams may have up to 14 players of which maximum of three (3) may be guest. Guest players must be current USYS/USSF or national equivalent players whose team is not participating in the VIRGINIAN. Teams entered for competition must be (1) in a league affiliated with USSF or national equivalent and (2) sanctioned by the appropriate State or National Association.

  2. Prior to the start of competition, teams must present proof of affiliation and permission to travel (if applicable).

  3. Validated State or Provincial players passes, as well as parental medical release forms are required for all players participating in the VIRGINIAN.

SECTION B

What is needed in order to complete your application

The following will be needed when filling out your tournament application. Please have answers to all the below listed items and a valid Visa or MasterCard BEFORE attempting to fill out an application.

General Information Needed

  • Team Name, gender, age group, state or team affiliation and hometown of team.

Coach Conflict

  • If your coach has a conflict with another team applying for the tournament you will need to provide age group, gender and name of the other team in the comments section of the application.

Competition Level

  • Level of competition your team wants to play in at the tournament (Cup, Gold, Silver, or Bronze - Click on the Tournament Information button for a complete description of each level)

Contact Information (please list at least TWO points of contact below)

  • Coach name, address, phone and email (email addresses are required as tournament correspondence is sent via email)

  • Team Manager’s name (person who will be primary contact for the tournament), address, phone and email (email addresses are required as tournament correspondence is sent via email)

  • Hotel/Travel Coordinator’s name, address, phone and email (email addresses are required as tournament correspondence is sent via email)

  • Designate Primary Point of Contact to receive tournament notices, updates, and other information related to the 2008 tournament.

Team Record

  • Division Team currently competes in

  • Team Record and final standing (# out of how many teams) for Spring and Fall 2007

  • U.S. Youth Soccer State Cup Results for State Cup. Was your team a quarterfinalist, semi-finalist or finalist? (This is applicable only to United States teams)

  • Tournament record and date of tournament for last 3 tournaments indicating whether your team was the Champion or runner-up in these tournaments.
